The two activities essential to a realization of the Master’s actual gospel, a message that’s been buried in a religion about him for over two thousand years, are worship and service.
We’re encouraged in the Urantia Book to restate the truth to each generation with words and symbols appropriate to them. The starchy, more traditionally Christian, mid-century language of the book does fit the time in which it was published–but here’s how I would restate the essential message of the gospel for my day:
God is the loving, parent Source of humankind and lives within you and everyone you see. This makes everyone you see potential siblings—brothers and sisters—regardless of their apparent differences. The thing Jesus tells us to do is to make the time to connect to that Source through reflective thought. Another word for ‘worship’ is love. So just go within and locate that Source in love through prayer, meditation and reflection. Be in its presence, available as love to Love.
When you do this spiritual practice, inquire what you can do to be of service and then be alert for service opportunities. From the leadings you get within, derive goals to achieve what you’re being led to do and then put them out there for others who might be led along the same lines as you to connect to. Remember, since you’re not looking for intellectual agreement, you’re free to connect with others to serve more spontaneously, simply along the lines of loving action.
This site is a tool to do that. This will be a place to post goals and contact information, along the lines of worship and service. While worship is innately personal and interior–worship, meditation and prayer goals for groups are fully desirable as well. Worship and service are really divine respiration, whether as individuals or in groups. Worship flows within and service without. Both require the same degree of self-forgetfulness, in the best sense, which is why they align with the selfless Spirit at their center. As the book says, this simple approach of the Master’s has never been seriously tried on this planet. What would happen if we gave it a chance?
Someday religionists will get together and actually effect co-operation on the basis of unity of ideals and purposes rather than attempting to do so on the basis of psychological opinions and theological beliefs. Goals rather than creeds should unify religionists. Since true religion is a matter of personal spiritual experience, it is inevitable that each individual religionist must have his own and personal interpretation of the realization of that spiritual experience. Let the term “faith” stand for the individual’s relation to God rather than for the creedal formulation of what some group of mortals have been able to agree upon as a common religious attitude. “Have you faith? Then have it to yourself.”
